It is true that in many areas, publicly funded Catholic schools slightly outperform their coterminous public boards on EQAO standardized tests. What some people ignore, however, are the reasons for the slight outperformance of Catholic schools.
Provincial EQAO reports include contextual data that include the percentage of students who are English language learners, who have special needs (excluding gifted), who were born outside of Canada, and whose first language was other than English. These data clearly indicate that in our urban areas in particular, public boards bear a disproportionately large share of the burden of integrating newcomers to this country.
Catholic schools too, often enjoy a level of racial and ethnic homogeneity not found in public schools. Religious segregation invariably leads to a degree of racial and ethnic segregation. In Great Britain, where a plethora of religious schools are funded, OECD studies have found that results are a function of intake. The socio-economic characteristics of that intake vary significantly by faith. The same is likely true here, where Census data indicate that Catholics in Ontario suffer lower unemployment and enjoy a higher level of educational attainment (high school, college, university) than the general population.
Merging our public and Catholic school systems would not result in poorer results for individual students, it would just spread the advantaged and disadvantaged students more equally.
How could a school system that limits its talent pool for teachers to the 34% of the population that is Catholic end up with better teachers? It can't -- especially not when selecting the best Catholic applicant instead of the best applicant period.
Catholic teachers are not, by and large, any different. In most cases, they are no more religious than teachers found in public schools. They just get 50% more employment opportunities in publicly funded education by virtue of the "colour" of their faith.
If there were any truth to the assertion (and it is only this) that Catholic schools were "better", than it would make the discrimination whereby they can reject non-Catholic children (till grade 9) and teachers (all grade levels) all the more reprehensible. You get a better school because of the "colour" of your faith? Is your "moral code" OK with that? Mine (Christian) is not.

Bottom line is this type of Sex education is the responsibility of the parents ... it is their job, their morals to teach to their children!!! These are private issues that come up in a healthy home environment......Not the school board's!! The curriculum along with the educators are responsible for giving our children as good of an education as possible....and keeping them safe....zero tolerance of any type of bullying. Acceptance of all.

In fact his only formal education was over 30 years ago and it was a four year arts program when Ontario College of Art was still a college...check the years...it hadn't become a university yet but I noticed he has it listed on his facebook as though he graduated from it when it was a University...
